History

Museo di Anatomia Patologica e Paleopatologia (Museum of Pathological Anatomy and Palaeopathology)

The museum was founded in the first half of the 19th century as a collection of anatomical pieces of pathological and educational interest taken from corpses and placed in blown glass jars.

The museum houses an important collection of human and animal pathological pieces of great scientific value, some of which date back to the Grand Ducal period. Considering the starting dates of the collections, much of the material is of historical, pathological and educational interest, and includes rare specimens. During more than a century of life, the collections have been enriched with a new section on forensic medicine and one dedicated to paleopathology.

The Museum is now part of the University Museum Network (SMA).
